Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • zest of one lemon
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Whisk the flour with the sugar and salt.
  2. Add the eggs, butter and the lemon zest.
  3. Whisk until the batter becomes smooth. Then add the milk.
  4. Pour the batter into a buttered 9-inch gratin pan (I just used a shallow baking dish). Add the berries — in my case, blackberries that I sliced in half.
  5. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes. When it’s ready, the custard will be set and golden on the edges. Let it cool, then top it with powdered sugar before serving.
